The Story: In a Country Burning

Thomas Sutton left behind infidelity and murder in Rochester, New York, venturing into the most dangerous country in the world in 1983, Afghanistan, seeking the retribution of God or fate for his crimes.

But despite repeatedly putting himself in harm's way, he does not find the death he seeks.

Instead the mujahideen put Sutton, an ex-paramedic, to work as a doctor, and he is swept into the maelstrom of war.

Before Sutton can leave Afghanistan, he must learn to live with his guilt rather than die, and he must find his own redemption and forgiveness In a Country Burning.

The Author: About Michael McPherson

Michael McPherson accepted an invitation from the mujahideen in 1988 to cross into Afghanistan to witness the last days of the Soviet occupation. What struck Michael was the optimism and hope of the Afghans for the anticipated peace after ten years of guerilla war.

In a Country Burning captures the bravery and sacrifice of the people of Afghanistan.
